Toolbox 4 -collage and drawing

Today, we were experimenting with collages to generate some initial ideas. Using the research  photos we have collected during the trips to South Kensington and Shoreditch, each of us has created 8 collages that we then used as an inspiration for some unconventional designs: for some it was shoes, for others – accessories, and for third – clothes.

For the first hour, we were making very fast and rough collages, which was a very new  experience for me. I was constantly worried that my work wouldn’t come out right or pretty. I already had some experience with making collages, but they were mostly planned and meticulously made, so letting myself relax and do something quick, fun and new, rather than perfect was as helpful as it was challenging. I got to play around with different shapes, textures and even made some elements 3D.

By the time we got to sketching, I already let myself loose and had lots of fun coming up with the designs I would have never even thought of. If I’m being completely honest, I genuinely hated some of the collages, but was later pleasantly surprised by the sketches that came out of them.

I’m sure I will be implementing the practice of “letting myself loose” in my further works, it has been increasingly helpful to, for once, not care about the outcome and just have fun.
