Toolbox 3 – styling and moving image

On today’s lesson, we were taking 4 fashion photographies and filming a moving image. Before, I used to film some fun stop-motion videos for my parents’ business’ social media. This time, however, I got to apply my knowledge to a fashion-related theme and having a real human model (instead of a chocolate bar) was a very fun experience.

As we were experimenting with different lighting, settings, and poses, I realized that most of the major concepts are universal for all mediums of visual arts. My mom taught me some basic of shot composition for photography and has always encouraged me to analyze cinematography, fine art paintings and fashion photography. I found this information quite helpful as we were positioning our model, Alec, in the frame.

I found filming and editing our promotional video the most fun, perhaps, because I was more experienced in that than in taking photos. I was responsible for directing the shoot and editing the GIF. We filmed a series of closeups, as well as more dynamic stop-motion scenes, combined them with music and b&w editing. I wasn’t very satisfied with the final product, but considering how little time and practice we had, I think we deed a pretty good job and I was very happy to hear so much positive feedback from my classmates and teachers.
