Toolbox 7 – fashion project designing

Today we have combined all the research we have been collecting since the beginning of the course and applied it to our final design. My design was inspired by the exhibit of 1966 prosthesis for children with thalidomide -induced abnormalities. Thalidomide was prescribed to women to help them with morning sickness. What followed, was the biggest man-made medical disaster ever. Over 10,000 children were born with severe malformations. To help them have more or less normal lives, the children were given these prosthetics that usually included hand and leg prosthetics, as well as a corset to support their spine.

In my final sketch, I took this reference and combined it with the youthful experimentation of my customer and the materials and silhouettes of her original outfit and am quite satisfied with the results.
